Disclaimer: This change log highlights key updates to the Fortnite Developer Rules, starting June 27, 2025. It doesn’t include every change.
March 31, 2026
We’ve updated the Sponsored Row Content Rules (5.9) to clarify that islands must be original, fully playable experiences to be eligible for Sponsored Row. Islands that require navigation to other islands to deliver their core experience are prohibited in Sponsored Row.
March 12, 2026
We've updated the definition of island metadata in Rules 1.2, 1.10, 1.15.7, 4.2.2. to include promotional screenshots.
We've also clarified (Rule 4.2.2.) that Creator Codes are not allowed anywhere within Fortnite.

We've added a new sub-rule (1.9.1) that prohibits publishing multiple copies of the same island or metadata in an attempt to manipulate visibility or engagement.
We’ve also updated rule 1.6 to clarify that copying other developers’ islands is prohibited.

We've added a new rule (4.4.15) stating that in-island transactions must not directly or indirectly affect prize wheels.

We’ve updated Fortnite Developer Rule 4.4.9. to add additional detail about paid random items.

We’ve made updates to the Fortnite Developer Rules:
Added a new rule (4.4.14) stating that in-island transactions that do not provide anything in exchange for V-Bucks are prohibited.
Added a new rule (4.4.10.1) detailing the requirements for using the RestrictDirectPromptsToPurchase function if offers or messaging include direct prompts to purchase.
Updated Fortnite Developer Rule 4.4 (In-Island Transactions) to use the term “entitlement” in place of earlier terminology.

We’ve made updates to the Fortnite Developer Rules:
Added “announcements”—posts shared from Fortnite Communities—to the definition of Promotional Materials that must be suitable for a general audience (rule 1.15.7) and to the definition of island metadata (rules 1.2, 1.10, and 4.22).

We’ve made updates to the Fortnite Developer Rules:
Added a new rule (4.4.12) detailing a disclosure requirement for in-island items that give players a meaningful advantage.
Added a new rule (4.4.13) detailing a disclosure requirement for in-island offers that provide access to paid areas.
Updated rule 4.4.9. to correct details on how to use the PaidRandomItem field.
Replaced two mentions of the “Fortnite EULA” to the “Epic Games Store Terms of Service” along with a new link (in Rule 1.7 and Other Terms & Conditions).

We’ve updated Creator Rules (1.15.1) to allow unrealistic blood-like substances (e.g. not red in color) to be used in your islands with fantasy NPC creatures. These effects cannot appear in thumbnails, or be used with any Fortnite Outfits or human-like characters. Realistic violence and gore of any kind is still not permitted.
